Born
in Auckland, New Zealand in 1969,to a mixed media
artist and art teacher, my life has been full of
art and learning from a very young age. I got the
basis of my artistic knowledge from my mother and
then went on to art school for five years, full time.
I majored in ceramics and learned a diverse range
of skills including bronze casting, jewellery skills,
sculpture, bone and stone carving, glass casting,
paper making and fibre to name a few. Art is and
has always been my focus and passion in life and
I was lucky enough to choose the right parents for
this end.
My interest in
the spiritual path and my soul's journey in life
is the highest inspiration for my artwork. Looking
beyond the day to day and into the unknown realm of
spirit. My paintings explore different aspects of this,
and in some instances take the viewer on a journey
of self-discovery. Meditation forms the basis of my
day and my preparation for receiving inspiration. |

Through my connection
with spirit, new ideas flow to me in the form of images.
While I am painting I feel very clear and centred,
and this is when I receive guidance about what I am
working on at that time. People who are on a spiritual
path themselves are usually drawn to my work because
they can sense at a higher level the connection to
spirit.
I am inspired by
the more enlightened way in which we used to live,
using ancient rites and rituals and giving us a stronger
connection to mother earth and spirit. The spirituality
of our ancestors and their myths, rituals, beliefs
and symbols are all part of my work to date. At the
beginning of my day I have a ritual where I light a
candle and some incense and welcome spirit into my
day and thank them for guiding me along my spiritual
path. I believe we should always be thankful for what
we have in this dance of life.
On an outer level nature is and
always has been an abundant source of inspiration for
me. I spend a lot of time out in nature, whether it
be the beach, the bush or the mountains, where I get
immense joy and peacefulness from just being. I have
always lived in the bush, near the beach, in New Zealand
and Australia and it is the place where I get the most
clarity and understanding. Nature is the true creator
and the extensive spectrum of exquisite colour, texture
and form that she never tires of creating, later become
seeds of new work for me.
I love the
vibrancy and translucency of colour I can create
with paint, one of the few mediums that offers that
promise. This is why most of my canvases seem to
glow with their own inner light. To add balance to
my work I also create areas of built up texture and
often add mixed-media components such as mirror glass,
fabric, cast paper, gold and silver leaf, copper
and anything else that catches my eye. I like to
explore different mediums and create refreshing new
techniques and ideas. There are no rules, only the
ones you impose upon yourself. |
